I chose the schipperke because it is a unique and different type of dog.
My Fia is much like a child, she enjoys being with me where ever I am, be it cleaning the barn or just sitting on the
couch watching tv.
Schipps are loving loyal companions but must be trained to listen to your wants.
An independent dog you must have the "HERE" command down pat before anything else.
I find them to be patient with babies and children and always supervised.
They are great hunters so if there is a mouse or squirrel you'd better watch and be sure he/she will answer your holler to
come back.
I recommend this breed for many. They do crave affection and attention so
one who works all day then comes home is not the perfect candidate for a schipperke, but I know those who have made it work.
I crate train all my kids and our pups will have the best start. They
will be available when 8 weeks old so check back for the announcement and pics. Little schipp puppies look
just like tiny black foxes. Hard to resist those shiny eyes and sweet faces.
They blow their coat 2 times a year so you can brush them at that time. They
are a VERY clean dog and will paper train or out train. They do not need baths as they have a very dense triple coat.
Of course Fia got sprayed by a skunk and did need a bath but it made her very itchy, so avoid it when possible.
Schipperkes can have dry skin as their coat is so thick. I feed a salmon
based food, "Premium Edge" Skin and Coat. They are sensitive to corn so any food with corn is a no
no.
